Community Calm
Mental Health Recovery Through Nature

We provide structured, non-clinical support for adults experiencing depression, anxiety, loneliness, social isolation, or emotional distress. As a Green Social Prescribing provider, we support patients and health professionals by delivering nature-based activities and therapeutic exercises that complement existing clinical care.

Activities include seasonal gardening, light conservation work, guided nature walks, nature based arts and crafts, forest skills, animal-assisted interactions, and green skills learning. We also offer supported day trips to significant natural and heritage sites, including Windsor Great Park, Kew Gardens, as well as coastal environments and other historic landscapes, enabling participants to widen their connection to nature and place in a gentle, supported way.

Each session is evidence-informed, low-intensity, and accessible to people of all abilities, offering a meaningful yet manageable pathway to recovery. All of our staff are working professionals in their field and offer their time and commitment to our service.

Our approach is grounded in the World Health Organisation’s definition of health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” We believe recovery is strengthened through meaningful activity, connection with the natural environment, and the support of peers, rather than symptom reduction alone.

We draw inspiration from the 12-step recovery model, emphasising community, accountability, personal growth, and the ethos of “principles before personalities.”

Referrals are welcomed from NHS Social Prescribing Link Workers, GP's, Psychologists, Community Mental Health Teams, and VCSE partners.

Our emerging findings show that many participants experience improved wellbeing outcomes when they engage in regular, peer-supported activity in natural settings, reinforcing the value of green social prescribing as a preventative, restorative, and complementary approach to healthcare.

Our safe spaces

Community Calm offers nature‑based and eco‑therapy programmes across peaceful locations in Maidenhead, Windsor, and Slough, creating gentle spaces where recovery can unfold at a natural pace. Each site has been carefully chosen and thoughtfully shaped to provide a safe, inclusive environment where individuals can reconnect with nature, rebuild confidence, and begin to feel grounded again. Our sessions are led by qualified professionals and supported by trained volunteers, ensuring that every activity is held with care, sensitivity, and a deep understanding of the recovery journey.

Recovery sits at the heart of our work. We recognise that healing is not linear, and that people need calm, consistent spaces where they can show up exactly as they are. Our safeguarding and governance are strengthened through our partnership with Slough CVS, whose oversight and guidance help us maintain robust policies and best‑practice standards in community health delivery. We are also supported by WAM Get Involved, whose community expertise and infrastructure help us stay connected, accountable, and rooted in local needs. Together, these partnerships ensure that every member who joins us is welcomed into a space that is safe, respectful, and held with integrity.

Alongside eco‑therapy, participants can explore creative arts, gentle yoga, mindful movement, and simple relaxation techniques. These activities are designed to be accessible and trauma‑aware, offering gentle ways to regulate the nervous system, express emotions, and rediscover a sense of ease. Sessions allow individuals to take part in ways that feel right for them on any given day.

Community Calm is more than a programme — it is a community of people walking their own recovery paths while supporting one another along the way. Our groups offer space for honest conversation, shared experiences, and quiet encouragement. Many members tell us they feel less alone, more understood, and more hopeful after spending time with others who recognise the challenges of healing. Through nature, creativity, and connection, individuals begin to rebuild trust in themselves and find strength in small, steady steps forward.
